Another Way to Combat Negative Feelings

When you feel low, discouraged, and disappointed, and when things feel hard, it’s unsettling. You don’t like to feel that way or want to feel that way, but sometimes it feels like there’s nothing you can do to change it. Here’s something to think about:


  • Remember that you can’t have one without the other; you can’t have Yin without the Yang; you can’t have certainty without doubt. You can’t know comfort without discomfort. This feeling is not BAD in and of itself. It’s part of the picture. It’s the mirror image of the feeling you want. It’s the necessary contrast that will allow you to experience what you want as a result.

  • The discomfort informs the comfort. The cold makes the warm feel warm. The storm makes the calm feel calm. Each experience, however unpleasant, is necessary for the other to exist.

  • When you’re in that storm, keep weathering it; keep pressing on. Look at this present discomfort from the inside looking out. Look outward and see what opposite is awaiting you that you will experience on the other side. See this current state as a necessary piece of the puzzle that will enable you to experience and appreciate that desired state on its arrival.
